STATE RECEPTION TO AUSTRALIAN TEAM

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The visiting Australian Rugby side was accorded a Government reception in Parliament House this morning. The Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, said that so far the Australians’ tour had been a triumphal procession, but he was confident they were meeting a first-class team today.

Mr. F. W. Doidge, M.P., speaking for the Opposition Leader, reminded the Australians that New Zealand had never lost a test match at Athletic Park.

Welcomes were also extended by Mr. E. T. Tirikatcne, M.P., on behalf of the Maori race, Mr. W. Appleton, Wellington’s Mayor Mr. D. S. Max. chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union,_ Mr. J. Meltzer, chairman of the Council of Sport, and Mr. J. B. Smith, the New Zealand captain. The visitors replied appropriately.
