TOKIO TYPHOON SPREADS DEATH AND DESTRUCTION

TOKYO, Sept. 2. The death roll from a typhoon which swept over the Tokyo area on Wednesday night soared to more than 100 today as communications with the stormbattered areas were restored. National police stated that 49 persons were missing and 417 were known to be injured. Some 13,000 houses had been damaged, destroyed or swept away while 160,000 houses had been flooded. A torrential downpour over Tokyo today flooded the city streets and raised fears of more serious flooding but late tonight officials said the swollen rivers were falling and the flooded areas were draining.
