12 GIRLS DROWNED IN MASS PLUNGE INTO POOL
(11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5. Twelve out of a party of 16 schoolgirls were drowned while bathing, in a pool near Kaiserau, about 40 miles east of Cologne, says Reuter’s correspondent in Cologne. The pool was marked with warning signs that it was unsuitable for bathing, but a whole class of girls, with the teacher, ran into the water holding hands. . , ,' Some of the children lost their balance on the slippery bottom and dragged others into the deep water where they were drowned. The teacher collapsed from exhaustion in trying to save the girls. The police took the teacher into protective custody fearing reprisals from the parents.
