SLIGHT EASING OF LABOUR POSITION IN NEW ZEALAND

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 14. Although a slight easing of the labour position in New Zealand has been apparent over the last year there is still plenty of employment offering throughout the Dominion. This was stated yesterday by the Secretary of Labour, Mr. H. L. Bockett, He said that while the number of vacancies notified to district offices of the Department of Labour and Employment had dropped from 24,522 at the end of May, 1948, to 19,843 at the end of last month, there was still no difficulty in finding employment for both male and female workers. Hie number of disengaged persons enrolled with the department at the end of May was five females and 95 males, compared with six females and 113 males at the same time last year.
