MR. A. R. BRETT DIES AT 83 YEARS OF AGE
<PA) AUCKLAND. Jnne 13. Mr Arthur Rowland Brett, the eldest son of the late Sir Henry Brett, oric of the founders of the Auckland Star, died today after a long illness. He was aged 33 years.
He was the works manager of the newspaper for many years and a director of the company for a long period He was educated at Nelson Colie n e He entered the job-printing department of the Star and gained wider experience in newspaper production on the staff of the Evening News in Sydney.
He was later responsible for buying the rotary machine and presses which revolutionised the production of the Auckland Star. He was also responsible for obtaining other modern cquipment for the Star, including the first linotype machine in the Dominion. Mr Brett retired from the position of works manager in 1935, and, because of ill-health, resigned as a director of New Zealand Newspapers Ltd. in July of last year , , , Mr. Brett was a keen horseman and motorist. He was a foundation member of the New Zealand Power Boat Association, founded in 1905 and now known as the Auckland Motor Yacht Club. He was the commodore in 19"!) and 1910. flying his flag from his 40ft. motor cruiser, Aileen, which he later replaced with Norana.
