PROGRESS IN PLAN FOR DEVELOPING RONGOTAI ’DROME

(S.R.) WELLINGTON, June 13. Long-standing negotiations between the Wellington City Council and the Government regarding the development of the Rongotai aerodrome have reached an important phase. The Minister in ■ charge of Civil Aviation. Mr. F, W. Jones, announced today that sufficient design work had been completed to enable the city council, the harbour board and the Ministry of Works to give, consideration to the reclamation, house clearance and roading problems associated with the extension of the runway. The Minister explained that a strip 300 ft. in width would be adequate initially and Die designing engineers could now push forward with the detailed plans. This is regarded in commercial aviation ciicles as an important advance bringing nearer the time when the internal services will lose the handicap of Wellington being served by ‘he Pariparaumu aerodrome, involving a drive of nearly an hour from the city.
