SOUTHLAND PRODUCES RECORD CLIP

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL. April 7. Southland woolgrowers have set an all-time record in their wool clip this season. Greasy wool offered at the four sales totals 88,597 bales, an increase of 15.463 bales on the offering last season. The extraordinary growth of the industry in 10 years is reflected in the increase of 37,000 bales. Over 50,730 bales were offered at 1938-39 sales.

Last year the Southland clip was light. This year it was heavy and more sheep were shorn. The demand for ewes in Southland was excessive but remained unsatisfied in spite of the thousands of sheep sent south from North Otago and Canterbury. An early forecast for next year is that there will be more sheep than ever for woolgrowers to handle and consequently a still greater clip.
