PRICE CONTROL PLAN FOR SPORTS GOODS

(P.A.) _ WELLINGTON, April 5. The Price Tribunal today issued a decision approving an application by the director of price control on a new method of controlling prices in the sports goods trade.

The director had submitted previously a schedule of automatic markups for wholesalers and retailers which were lower than those formerly in effect and which, if adopted, would mean a reduction in consumer prices of between 5 and 7J per cent. The tribunal’s decision is that the new schedule of mark-ups should be enforced. A new method of arriving at the landed cost of goods is also included in the tribunal’s decision. Some 33 different sporting lines are affected.
