ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF U.S. RIFLE RESULTS IN FINE
(P.A.) NAPIER, April 5.
Brian William I-lasler, licensee of the Tarawera Hotel, pleaded guilty before Mr- L. G, H. Sinclair, S.M., today to charges of procuring a firearm without a permit and with having an unregistered firearm in his possession. The police said that the rifle, a .30 calibre automatic, was used by American forces during the war and had never been released in New Zealand. The rifle was still the property of the U.S. armed forces and would be returned to them. Hasler was fined £5 on each charge.
