£75,000,000 To Modernise West Europe’s Steel Industries

PARIS, Mar. 27,

The Economic Co-operation Administration announced it has accepted a £75,000,000 co-ordinated programme for expending and modernising Western Europe’s steel industry. The first phase of the programme calls for the use of £25,000,000 in E.C.A. funds to buy modern oremining and rolling-mill equipment. Twenty projects in eight countries — Austria, Italy, Britain, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Turkey and Norway—are involved. Mr. George W. Perkins, head of the industry division in the E-C.A.’s European headquarters, said this was the first time that such a proposal had been made on an international basis.
