SYDNEY PROSPECT OF BLEAK WINTER IN POWER FAMINE

SYDNEY, Mar. 28.

The city is expected to have some of its worst black-outs this week as one of the four main boilers of the Bunnerong power station is choked with slag and out of commission. This will mean a cut of 13 per cent in the power output, which is already inadequate. All authorities predict that this will be the worst winter for power shortages in many years.. Thirty-one areas in Sydney are blacked out and the employers believe that the only way industry can function is by the introduction of nights shifts, as was done recently in Perth. Some opposition from the unions is expected, but the move is regarded as the only way to avoid extensive unemployment.
