STEEP RISE IN COST OF NEW BUILDINGS

(S.R.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 28. The rise in building costs over the last 35 years was illustrated by the chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, Mr. W. J. Gaudin, speaking at the opening of the new nurses’ home on Saturday.

The original nurses’ home, built in 1904. with additions some 21 years later, cost nearly £45.000 and housed about 200 nurses. Mr. Gaudin said. The new home, which would house 126 nurses, had been built at a cost of about £130,000.
