Nearly 4000 Refugees Drown In Ship Sinking

(11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Dec. 10. Another 400 were reported today as missing from the steamer Kiangya which sank after an explosion near the mouth of Shanghai harbour, bringing the total thought dead to 3920. Survivors total 616 and the figures show that 4536 crowded the vessel which was built to hold 1186.

The kiangya, of 3730 tons, was southward bound from Shanghai with war refugees, hundreds of whom stormed aboard without tickets.
