ENGINE PARTS FOR FERNMOOR FLOWN TO N.Z
(PA.) AUCKLAND. Oct. 6. Weighing nearly 15001 b., 12 cases of spare parts for the engines of the disabled British motor-ship Fernmoor have arrived at Whenuapai from Sydney in a Trans-Australia Airlines Skymaster.
Probably the largest ship repair order to be flown from Britain to New Zealand, the consignment was dispatched by the Fernmoor’s owners, Walter Runciman and Company, Limited, from the London airport.
"Only 1005 miles to go to pilot,” was the cheerful comment made by Captain Spurr. master of the Palana, in yesterday's message to the New Zealand Herald on the progress of the 2200-mile tow of the Fernmoor. The day’s run was 115 miles. A strong north-west wind and confused swell was being experienced. Late last night the Palana advised that the two ships were meeting rough seas, a southerly swell and a fresh north-north-west wind.
If the present progress is maintained the ships are expected to reach Aucland about Tuesday or Wednesday.
