ANOTHER PARTY OF SETTLERS FOR N.Z.
(P.A..) _ WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The Minister of Immigration, Mr. A. McLagan, released details today of the next party of assisted settlors, who will arrive in New Zealand.
The Tamaroa, due at Wellington on October 2, carries 97 assisted settlers and 93 Government-sponsored passengers.
The assisted settlers comprise mainly nursing staff for hospitals, skilled tradesmen for the Post and Telegraph Department, and shorthand typists. Tne balance of the party is made up of men for the mines, sawmills and State Hydro development works, in addition to engineering tradesmen and some women and girls for domestic and factory work.
The Minister said the tradesmen for the Post and Telegraph Department and the shorthand typists were all required for employment in Wellington, where they were most urgently needed. Of the 31 nursing staff, the Health Department had allocated 26 to North Island hospitals, mainly in the Waikato district. Therefore, it had been possible on this occasion to allocate ohly 23 of the party to the South Island.
