TWO YOUNG MEN FACE 67 CHARGES
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 30. For crimes committed in various parts of the Dominion, Ivan Hardcastle Blakeborough, aged 21, and Allan Joseph Pope, aged 20, came before the Supreme Court for sentence today. Fifty eight charges against Blakeborough included 38 of breaking and entering and theft and five of unlawful conversion of cars committed in Auck land, Te Kuiti, Wellington, Palmerston North and Greymouth. Pope, who was concerned with ofences in Auckland, Te Kuiti and Grey mouth, faced nine charges. Mr. Justice Fair said it was incredible that young men of their age should do this sort cf thing. Today they had every opportunity of getting steady employment and building up their home life.
He sentenced Blakeborough to two years, gaol with hard labour, to be followed by one year’s reformative detention. Pope was ordered 12 months’ reformative detention.
