OFFICER CADETSHIPS TO BE OFFERED IN R.N.Z.N.

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. “Eight officer cadetships in the R.NsZ.N. for entry early in 1949 are being offered.” said the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, today. “Five of the cadetships will be offered in the executive branch, one in engineering, and two in the supply and secretariat branch Candidates for the entrance examination, to be held at the end of the present year, must be between 17 years and 13 years eiaht months on May 1. 1919, and must have passed the university entrance or school -certificate examination. “Those selected will be sent to Britain at the Government’s expense for one year’s training, to be followed by three years’ further training in the Royal Navy in the ranks of midshipman and sub-lieutenant. The officers will then return to New Zealand for permanent service in the R.N.Z.N. The Minister also announced that early in 1913 cadetships will be introduced in the electrical branch of the R.N.Z.N.
