NEW OIL BORE AT NEW PLYMOUTH

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 3. Drilling has started at the new oil bore at Moturoa. New Plymouth, where New Zealand Oil Refineries, Limited, have erected up-to-date American equipment brought from Gisborne lasi December.

Although the engine can drive the drill at the rate of 20 feet an hour, progress is expected to be slow, as samples and observations have to be taken first. Oil is expected to be struck at about 2300 feet. If it proves unsuitable, the shaft will be sunk lower. No difficult strata is expected to be met. The new operations are taking place a little east of the old oil bore site.
