WOMEN’S INSTITUTES PRESIDENT

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. The new Dominion president of the New Zealand Womens Institutes is Mrs. E. R. Sawer, of Silverdale, North Auckland, who was elected at the Dominion conference yesterday. Mrs. Sawer was president of the Auckland federation of institutes for four years and has been Dominion vice-president for two years. She was appointed a year ago to take charge of the organisation’s work for Maori members. During the war she was an active patriotic worker and was in charge of the country holiday scheme for soldiers’ children. Tribute was paid to the retiring president, Mrs. H. Barnicoat. who has held office for five years.
