NEW DRUG PREVENTS SLEEPING SICKNESS
LONDON, June 13. The discovery of a new drug, known as M 3555, which has proved effective against sleeping sickness in tests on cattle, is announced by Dr. D. G. Davey, Imperial Chemical Industries’ biologist, reports Reuter’s Khartoum correspondent.
The drug is cheap and easy to manufacture. The tests are expected to prove that the drug not only cures sleeping sickness, but will give immunity for six months.
It is hoped that the drug's effectiveness will enable white farmers to cultivate vast fertile areas of East Africa which are infested with the tsetse fly.
