FINE OF £3 FOR ASSAULT IN STREET

Heading guilty to charges of drunkem.ess and assault preferred in the Gisborne Police Court this morning, Tainate Potaka, labourer, was convicted anc discharged on the first count and flrnd £3 on the second by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M. Sergeant R. Griffith explained that in Peel street yesterday afternoon Potaka, who was in an intoxicated condition, hac accosted a man and demanded one shi.ling, later grasping the tie of the otter and increasing the demand to half a crown. When the man broke fres and moved away Potaka had thrown a small suitcase at him. The accused was subsequently arrested by Constable H- B. Jamieson.
