LARGEST ELECTORATE IN THE WORLD

CANBERRA, May 10. The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Johnson, who represents the biggest electorate in the world (Kalgoorlie, 900,000 square miles), wishes that kangaroos had a vote. “I think there are more kangaroos than people in many parts of my area,” he said today, “and I know most of them.” Mr. Johnson will leave for Kalgoorlie by plane on May 20 to visit the outback mining and pastoral areas. In August he covered the section from Wyndham to Darwin. A month ago he toured the wheat area inland from Geraldton. The electorate is all Western Australia, except the south-western corner. “I have to take about five real bites at it to cover the lot,” Mr. Johnson said.
