Veterinary Field Trials
“Small field trials in the prevention of black udder in ewes, and fly strike, were carried out during the' year,’’ states Mr. R. Crawford, senior veterinary surgeon, in his annual report to be presented this week to the annual meeting of the Gisborne Veterinary Club. The former gave inconclusive results, and it is regretted that many members failed to report the results of the trials wilh the preparation used in attempting to prevent fly strike. Those who did were of ' differing opinions, but the consensus was that a relative protection to fiv strike, between docking and shearing of lambs, was obtained. By next spring it is hoped to have available a new nreparation. which has given very satisfactory re suits in England, for trial in this district.” Increasing Vet. Club Services “This year has shown a great advance in the volume of services rendered by the club.” states the annual report of the president, Mr. Lawson Field, which he will present at the annual meeting of the Gisborne Veterinary Club at the showgrounds this week. “This is shown by the following figures, last year's total being given in parenthesis: Abortion vaccinations, 8209 (7293); rams examined, 5082. (2639): dogs inoculated, 520 (824); T.B. tests. 510 (303); and individual cases treated, 2494 (1416). In addition to this, a large amount of work, the value of which cannot be computed, is done by way of telephone advice, and the constant interest taken by the staff in I all matters relating to the general j health and well being of the herds and I flocks of the farmers throughout the club’s district.”
