REGIONAL ALLIANCES APPROVED BY AMERICAN SENATE
WASHINGTON, June 11. The Senate tonight voted overwhelming approval of a resolution calling for stronger United Nations and eventual American support of regional antiaggression alliances within the United Nations. The resolution is purely in the form of advice to the President, and is not binding on the Administration. However, it puts the Senate on record as favouring American aid to mutual defence pacts among other United Nations members, and advises President Truman to make another effort to curb big-Power use of the veto. It offers no promise of immediate American backing for collective security alliances such as the Western Union, but it registers American approval of the development of such pacts.
