BRITISH AND U.S. EXPERTS FOR SCIENCE CONGRESS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 12. The leader of the British delegation to the seventh Pacific Science Congress to be held at Auckland and Christchurch from February 2 to February 25 next, will be Professor G. W. Robinson, stated the chairman of the organising committee l)r. R. A. Falla. Professor Robinson is professor of agricultural chemistry at the University of North Wales. Bangor. Among his noted publications are, "Mother Earth." a classic series of essays on soil fertility, soil moisture, grass, forestry. Sir Peter Buck to Attend Other distinguished men who will attend are Dr. Herbert Gregory, ornothologist, a former director of the Bishop Museum. Honolulu, and the founder of these Pacific conferences. He will be accompanied by Sir Peter Buck, the present head of the museumConsiderable interest attaches to the possibility of a number of leading American scientists, apart from the official party being sponsored by a leading United States foundation to spend some months’ lecturing or doing research in New Zealand, a programme which would allow them to attend the congress also. The organising committee is now working on the congress agenda which will have for its main purpose cooperation in solving nroblcms relating to the Pacific particularly those affecting the well-being of Pacific peoples. Attention will be focussed on subjects pressing for immediate action. Most of these will be dealt with on a broad basis in a divisional symposia, leaving matters of more direct technical interest for sectional discussion.
The proceedings of the congress will fall into the following divisions: Geophysics and geology. meteorology, oceanography and marine survey: zoology, botany, soil and agriculture and forestry: anthropology, public health, social services and organisation of science.
During the week’s interval betweer sittings of the congress in Aucklnnc and in Christchurch, the Tourist De partment will bring 120 delegates tc Wellington by seven different routes each demonstrating to the visitors < special phase of New Zealand from : scientific aspect.
