DANCING SUCCESS

A distinction that will be welcomed by his friends in the district has been gained by a young Gishorne ballroom dancer, Mr. Pat Corbett. As a result of recent examinations conducted in Wellington, Mr. Corbett has been made an associate member of the National Association of Teachers of Dancing, London (Latin-American branch). He is the first Gisborne man to attain this high qualification in the various forms of Latin-Arnerican dancing, notably, the tango, the rumba, the samba, and the paso doble. Before gaining nis associate membership examination, Mr. Corbett passed his bronze and silver medal tests with high marks. His examiner on each occasion was Margaret Michael, New Zealand representative of the N.A.T.D., and his teacher was the well-xnown Wellington exponent of Latin-Americnn dancing, Mr. Jimmy James, both of whom visited Gisborne last year. Before leaving Wellington, Mr. Jorbett was congratulated by the examiner on his able technique and on the sound grasp he had shown of the theory of Latin-American dance forms- His interpretation of the rumba was especially commended.
