LIFTING OF BAN ON DUTCH SHIPPING

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. This action may be instrumental in promoting a revival of trade between New Zealand, Australia and the Netherlands, said the Netherlands charge d’affaires. Dr. W. Arriens. today in a statement expressing satisfaction at the lifting of the ban against Dutch shipping. He added: “In a way, however, one might consider that th e lifting of the ban has been long overdue.”

Even taking into consideration the prevailing inevitable restrictions regarding a free exchange of goods, there was Dr. Arriens believed, every prospect that important trade connections could be developed, providing, of course, that the necessary shipping facilities could be made available.

The National Executive of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union on Thursday removed the ban on Dutch shipping on the basis of the terms accepted at the Melbourne conference on May 26 of Australian transport and waterside workers.
