Jessie Mackay Prize.

The Jessie Mackay memorial prize for 1948 has been awarded to Ruth Gilbert (Mrs. John Mackay) of Wellington for a set gf three poems entitled Lazarus This was announced at the annual meeting of Pen (New Zealand centre) by the judges, Messrs. O. N. Gillespie and C. Stuart Perry, who dpse-ifced the winning poems as possessing good music, a compelling cenl; al theme and warm human values. Dr. Guy H. Scholefield announced that the result of the Hubert Churrt award v.cultl be released later.—P.A.
