MEDIATOR GIVEN FREE HAND TO MAKE PEACE
(10 a.m.) LONDON, June 11. According to Tewfik Abdul ~”Hoda Pasha, Prime Minister of Transjordan, Count Bernadotte told the Arabs he had powers to scrap all past United Nations’ recommendations and decisions and to make an attempt to reach a new solution. Count Bernadotte promised that should the Jews and Arabs agree on a solution United Nations support would be a mere formality. The Jewish Agency spokesman in Jerusalem claimed that the Arab decision to accept the cease-fire order was a definite political victory for the Jews. Reports from the Arab capitals, however, indicate that the Arabs generally do not exnect a satisfactory agreement to result from the truce and point out that they still are unwilling to accept the partitioning of Palestine and the demands for a Jewish State. The Premier of Transjordan said the Arabs were still ready to accept Jews of Palestine nationality into a unified State in which immigration would be controlled by legislation.
