KIWI ELECTION FOR GISBORNE R.S.A. EXECUTIVE
Kiwi members of the Gisborne Returned Services’ Association will have a choice of four candidates for the single vacancy on the district executive in their group, in connection with which a postal ballot will be conducted prior to the forthcoming annual meeting.
One of the four candidates will be Mr. J. Leggat, who during the past year has held the post of president of the association. Due to pressure of other claims upon his time and energy Mr. despite a unanimous request from his mination for a second term as president despite an unanimous request from his executive colleagues that he should do so. He is however, available for service on the executive. The other three nominations received are those of Messrs. C. E. Broom, J. F. Forster, and M. R. Skeet. All the other vacancies in executive posts have been filled without the necessity of an election. Mr. Gordon Jones has been nominated unopposed for the post of president, and will be succeeded as Digger vicepresident by Mr. A. H. Barwick. Mr. M. R. Maude is returned unopposed as Kiwi vice-president, Mr. H- D. Chrisp as a general member of the Digger group, and Mr. K, Te Hau as the representative of Maori ex-servicemen of both wars.
Rules of the association governing the election of officers require that the president, two vice-presidents, and one of each of ihe three groups of general members retire each year, with the privilege of nominating for re-election.
Nominations for all vacancies have to be called well in advance of the annual general meeting in order to provide for a postal ballot should an election be necessary. Any changes in personnel in the various posts take effect as from the date of the annual meeting.
