CLOSING OF MAILS
TRAIN-DAY CHANGES EARLIER BAGGING The projected earlier departure of the Gisborne-Wellington express train, which will take effect as from May 4, will make necessary a change in the hours of closing of mails in Gisborne on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on and from that date. At present all mails dispatched south hy the express close at 7.30 a.m., with late fee at 8 a.m.. while letter mails for Auckland, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts, as well as all mails for East Coast offices north of Gisborne, close at 6 a.m. To meet the new conditions created by the change in the _ express-train schedule these mails will close at 5 a.m., with late fee at 5.30 a.m., on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There will be no alteration to the existing closing times on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the early-morning clearance of street mail receivers will continue to be made at 5 a.m., according to advice received from the chief postmaster at Gisborne, Mr. A. O. Martin. The closing times for airmails from Gisborne will remain as at present.
