RECORD LIKELY IN BURTON CUP BOWLS

EASTER TOURNEY GISBORNE AND WAIROA NEARLY SEVENTY RINKS MANY VISITING TEAMS With 67 teams already nominated and the prospect of a few further entries from the southern part ol the district the indications are that the total taking part in the popular Easter tournament of the Gls-botne-East Coast Bowling Centre for the Burton Cup will eclipse the record set last season at 70 rinks.

Many bowlers from outside centres have again been attracted, the nominations this season including representatives from as far away as Auckland in the north and Wellington in the south. Chibs represented ir. the list are: Remuera, Whitiora (Hamilton), Matamafa, Rotorua. Oootiki. Opotiki Citizens. Tokomaru Bay. Tolaga Bay, Te Karaka. Gisborne, Kahutia, Poverty Bay, Wairoa and Thorndon (Wellington’!. The strongest club entry Is that of the Gisborne club which is represented by 17 rinks. They include the skip. J. H Walker, and two others of the winning four players last season and also the runner-up four skipped by_H. AArmstrong. An innovation will be the playing of one section on the greens of the Wairoa club, this being the first occasion on which greens other than those in the Gisborne area have been used in the annual contest. Play is to commence on Friday. March 26 and section play, starting at 8.45 a.m. daily, is to extend over three days. Nine games of 21 ends are being played. Post section p'av is due to commence on Tuesday. March 30. Messrs.’ E. E. Somervell, president of the centre. L. Kondrew, past president and F.
