SHARK-INFESTED SEA LEAP FROM BURNING SHIP CAIRO, March 14. Tugboats rescued from shark-infested waters the surviving members of the crew of the Italian tanker Olteria, which caught fire after a collision with the Italian ship Gaita at the entrance to the Suez Canal yesterday. The crew of the Olterra leaped into the sea in their pyjamas. The first officer returned to retrieve the ship’s log, became trapped by the flames, and was burned to death. Twenty-nine of the crew, including the captain, were injured, and some are missing, , . The Olterra, which was carrying crude oil, was towed clear of Port Said, which has been closed until furthci notice for fear of an explosion.
