FINDING REJECTED
WATERSIDERS’ ACTION LEGAL ACTION TAKEN ' COMMISSION ATTACKED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 12. The president of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, Mr. H. Barnes, announced last night that the national executive of the union had unanimously rejected the Waterfront Industry Commission's findings on the Mountpark dispute. He said a special meeting of the national council of the union had been called for March 22 to discuss developments in the dispute and the union’s attitude to the commission. The national executive had also instructed its solicitor in Auckland to institute proceedings immediately against the Waterfront Industry Commssion and/or the Union Steam Ship Company. The action would be based on steps taken against watersiders during the Mountpark dispute. Mr. Barnes said it was to be regretted that the commission had not accepted the union’s offer to isolate the Mountpark until the dispute was legally determined, thus allowing all other shipping in the port of Auckland to be fully j manned and overtime work to proceed ; at once.
