CHIEF DIES AT 103

MAORIS' GREAT LOSS fP.A.) TAUMARUNUI, March 12. The death has occurred of one of the great Maori chiefs, Te Wainui a Rua Taumata. Poihipi, aged 103 years. Poihipi was one of the outstanding elders of the Maori people with a wonderful store of knowledge of Maori song lore, tradition, customs and genealogy. He was a keen follower of Rugby football and an elder of the Presbyterian Maori Mission.
