TRAINING OF YOUTH

SCOUTING AND GUIDING WORLD LEADER’S CALL (P.A.) HASTINGS, Mar. 12. Full support for the scouting and guiding movement, as it progressed, was asked for yesterday by Lady Baden Powell, world Chief Guide, when she replied to a civic reception in Hastings yesterday at the start of her official tour through New Zealand. She said she felt confident the 'movement was a most effective counter to the disruptive and subversive forces in the world. “We are going through the most difficult period, perhaps, in the world’s history,” she added. "We must use every tool put into our hands to see that the children are prepared for what is ahead of them. They must be trained and highly developed in the qualities of character, high living and self sacrifice.” Those were things which counted, and she hoped her tour through New Zealand would arouse new zest among adults to encourage the youth of the country in constructive service.
