PASTURE RESEARCH

IHUNGIA ROAD TRIAL GRANT APPLIED FOR Because it appeared that it would be some time before pure research work could be carried out at Waerenga-o-kuri, application has been made by the P.B. Catchment Board for a grant of £250 from the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council for the purpose of undertaking pasture research on the property of Mr. H. Stevens, Ihungia road. A report to that effect was adopted at a meeting of the board yesterday. It was felt by the advisory research committee that, with the restricted use of phosphate on hill country with a moderate rainfall, there was a possibility of improving pasture density and production by merely introducing some suitable species. It was desirable to determine quickly, just what species could be expected to improve pastures on both topdressed and non-topdressed country.
