ITALIAN CABINET

DE GASPERI’S TEAM SLIGHT LEFT TURN TWO DEPUTY PREMIERS (N.Z.P.A. — Reuter —Copyright.) LONDON, Dec. 14. Signor de Gasperi has completed remodelling the Italian Cabinet, reinforcing the Government by including Republican and moderate Socialist groups, says the Daily Telegraph’s correspondent in Rome. Signor Pacciardi, Republic leader, and Signor Saragat, the moderate Socialists’ leaders, have become joint deputy Prime Ministers. Signor Pacciardi will preside over a new public order committee of Ministers. Other new Ministers are: Industry and Commerce: Signor Tremellini (Moderate Socialist). Defence: Signor Facchinetti (Republican). Post and Telegraphs: D’A. Recona (Socialist). Minister without portfolio: Signor Togni (Christian Democrat, formerly Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Count Sforza, who hitherto sat in the Cabinet as Independent “expert” now resumes his Republican Party label. The inclusion of two additional groups gives the Government a slightly left wing turn. Its main significance is that it gives Signor de Gasperi a threeparty responsibility for conducting the elections in March and aid for any measure which may be taken to preserve order before then.
