DESTROYED BY FIRE
CONFECTIONERY STORES OUTBREAK IN AUCKLAND .(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 15. Thirty city firemen fought for over an hour last night to suppress a fire which totally destroyed a large stock of valuable stores in the confectionery factory of Brown Bros, and Geddis, in Parnell. A wooden building, which was the oldest part of the main brick factory, was reduced to ashes but the outbreak was prevented from spreading to other buildings. At least three near-by residents whose homes were from 25 to 70 yards from the fire reported the outbreak almost simultaneously to the Fire Brigade. They said a fierce glow was seen behind the windows .then the windows splintered and a fierce burst of flame enveloped the whole building. As it rose 50 feet into the air, casting a reflection which was seen 10 miles away, the roof collapsed in a shower of sparks. The firemen concentrated on preventing the spread of the fire. Nothing could be done to save the stores in the building. A director of the firm said last night that no estimate could at present be given of the value of the contents.
