SECOND SUSPECT
YOUNG GISBORNE GIRL PRECAUTIONS TAKEN A giri, aged three, and a half, was admitted to the Cook Hospital yesterday and was classified by tne Health Department at Gisborne this morning as a suspected case of infantile paralysis. The child is from Gisborne and doctors at the hospital are investigating the case. Precautions are being taken by the Health Department in connection with persons who have recently had contact with the child. This is the second case of suspected poliomyelitis to be reported in Gisborne, the first, a young woman hav’ing entered hospital a little over a fortnight ago, when epidemic precautions were first taken. She is still classed suspect case, and it is now expected that she will not progress, past this stage. It is not known whether, or when, the newly-admitted patient will be able to be classified as a negative or positive case. Formal notice closing all churches and camping grounds in the North Island to children under 16 years of age has now been received in Gisborne by thfr Health Department, who will take any steps necessary to enforce the notice.
