ORDERS FOR SUPER

REDUCTION NOT ADVISED COSTS TO BE OFFSET (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 5“Mv attention has been drawn to the fact that some farmers have reduced their orders for superphosphates for the ensuing season for the reason that there is to be a considerable increase in the price of this fertiliser through the withdrawal of subsidies,” said Mr. J. J. Evans, general manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. “In the face of the definite assurance given by the Government tha.t the increased costs brought about by the withdrawal oi subsidies would be fully met by increases in the fat stock schedule prices for the ensuing season, farmers are strongly urged to cover themselves for their full requirements of fertiliser.

“Any action to reduce the quantities of fertiliser used from now on will detrimentally affect the producers themselves and. worse still, hamper the “aid to Britain" campaign. “The board’s case for increased prices has been lodged with the Economic Stabilisation Commission. It is hoped that finality will be reached early next week.

“If the Government accedes to the reauest contained in the board’s case, producers are assured of receiving adequate compensation for all increases in costs likelv to be incurred during the ensuing season.”
