DEATH AT WAINUI
MRS. G. I. FALKWER KEEN CHURCH WORKER A well-known and highly respected resident of Wainui Beach ror the past 2l yaais, Mrs. G. I. Faikner, passed away yesterday at the age of 87 years. Residents of the beacn who remember the activities of the late Mrs. Faikner in church affairs feel her loss deeply and have expressed their sympathy to her relatives. Mrs. Faikner was born in Ireland and came to New Zealand with her parents. At Hawera she married the late Mr. G. I. Faikner, who predeceased her bv nine years. They came to Gisborne 4li years ago when Mr Faikner joined his brother-in-law, the late Mr. James McCutchan, in the farming of a block o*' country at Here. Ordered to recuperate, after having suffered a serious accident, Mr. Faikner retired from farming and they made their home at Wainui Beach. After untiring work the section on the beach frontage was transformed by the growth of suitable trees nursed through their early stages by constant watering It could almost be said that Mi's. Faikner took the church to Wainui. Before the construction of the church hall there, Mr. and Mrs. Faikner made their home available for church services. In her work Mrs. Faikner endeared herself to the Maori and European population of the locality. Appreciating her kindliness, members of the Maori community were loyal supporters of the church. Since the death of Mr. Faikner. Mrs. Faikner remained at Wainui. She is survived bv two sons and four daughters, Messrs G. C. Faikner and C M. Faikner Mrs. A. Joseph, Hamilton, Mesdames G Scott, ,1. Gardner, and W. Porter, Gisborne A short service will be held at her late residence at 3.15 p.m. today, after which the funeral will leave tor the Ormond cemetery.
