FIRST MEETINGS
WAIAPU’S BISHOP GISBORNE ANGLICANS DEEP IMPRESSION MADE An outstanding impression was created by the new Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. Xornnan Lesser, on those who attended services at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday, the bishop taking part in three services and giving the sermon at morning and evening services. The church was well filled on both occasions by parishioners who were having their first opportunity to meet the new bishop, and who heard with keen satisfaction two outstanding addresses. A majority of church-people also met Bisop Lesser at a parish supper in the Parish Hail following the c.ening service.
Bishop Lesser visited the Wainui congregation during the afternoon, and preached to a larger attendance than has ever previously been recorded there. His exposition of militant Christianity was most effective, and at an informal gathering later he found the Wainui people anxious for his early return to this portion of his diocese. Yesterday the Bishop of Waiapu, accompanied by the Bishop of Aoteuroa. the Pit. Rev.'F. A. Bennett, left for the East Coast, where the two bishops will attend a Maori synod at Te Kaha.
