HUNT UNSUCCESSFUL
SAFEBLOWERS ESCAPE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 9. With a roar that could be beard nearly half a mile away, safeblowers detonated a charge plugged to the door of the strongroom at Millers, Limited, Tunm street, this morning. It is not known yet whether or not the attempt was successful, but the strongroom door was damaged considerably. The attempt was one of the boldest yet made in Christchurch. Daylight was fast approaching and people were beginning to appear on the streets when the explosion came. The intruders must have worked fast alter the charge was blown for eight minutes later a policeman was on the scene. He had heard the explosion : two streets away while on his beat, j While policemen and detectives surrounded the building others searched for the safeblowers. However, the hunt was unsuccessful.
