ARABS’ PLEA REJECTED

IMMEDIATE DEBATE PALESTINE PROBLEM (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 2. The United Nations’ Assembly last night rejected an Arab proposal for an immediate debate by the United Nations on the entire Palestine problem. The vote was announced as 25 to 15, with 10 abstentions. A two-thirds majority was required to place the Arab request on the Assembly agenda. Shortly before the vote, however, the president, Dr. Aranha promised specifically that the Arabs would have a full opportunity to argue all aspects of the Palestine case before the Assembly’s political committee as well as in the Assembly.
