The House of Representatives Agricultural Committee's efforts to secure the enactment of legislation empowering the Secretary of Agriculture to impose a fee of up to 50 per cent, ad valorem in addition to the existing tariff on imported wool is certain to fail, The measure, which is intended to prevent foreign wools from under-sell-ing the price-supported domestic product on the American market, and to permit the disposal without loss of approximately 480,000,0001 bof raw wool held by the Government, continues to be held up in the House's Rules Committee, which must give its approval before legislative action can be taken. The committee’s chairman, Mr. L. Allen, declared that the measure would remain there “indefinitely.”
