QUEEN A PUPIL
A New Zealander who once gave pianoforte lessons to Queen Elizabeth is visiting Taranaki. He is Mr Arthur Hirst, who is recognised as a musical authority throughout England and Europe. It was while studying music under Pathild Verre, who was also the teacher of Solomon, a famous pianist, who visited New Zealand recently that Mr Hirst had occasion to instruct Queen Elizabeth. At the time Mr Hirst was already a well-known musician, and when Pathild Verre’s pupils were without a teacher for a short time, Mr Hirst gave lessons, the Queen being one of the pupils whom he instructed.
