TRAFFIC RULES

OBSERVANCE NECESSARY WARNING BY INSPECTOR A warning to the public concerning traffic safety was issued by the borough traffic inspector, Mr. T. G. Nowell, in a report to the Gisborne Borough Council at last evening’s meeting. The public must co-operate and take steps to observe regulations in their own interests, said the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull. It was decided by the council that clue warning should be given to motorists and cyclists and prosecutions would follow, for those not comply* o ® with the by-laws. Mr. Nowell pointed out to the council that with the black-out in force during the hours of darkness, it became particularly necessary for cyclists to have efficient lights and reflectors. At least 12 square inches of the rear mudguard of the cycle must be painted white.

Motorists were reminded by the inspector that headlights and tail lights must be in good working order and drivers were obliged to dip headlights to oncoming .traffic, including cyclists.
