SCHOOL LEAVING AGE
INCREASE TO 16 YEARS GOVERNMENT’S INTENTION (P.A.) AUCKLAND. March 26. The Government's intention to raise the school leaving age from 15 to 16 years as soon as teachers and accommodation are available was revealed by the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, at the official opening of the new Rawene School, The Prime Minister made the announcement without further comment in the course of a reference to the advantages and opportunities offered by the larger schools in country districts. The school leaving age was last raised from 14 to 15 years from February 1. 1944.
