CRITICAL YEAR

POULTRY PRODUCERS

STRENGTH IN INDUSTRY “Our association has again gone through a critical year,” stated the annual report presented last evening to the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Registered Poultry Keepers’ Association by the president, Mr. A A. Watts.

‘‘Our co-operative egg floor has been a source of satisfaction to producers, largely owing to the splendid co-opera-tion of poultry-keepers throughout the year. Egg prices have been satisfactory up to a point, and our thanks are due to Mrs. T. Peel and Mr. G. W. Armstrong for their good work in trying to keep the prices right for producers. ‘‘Poultry foods have been In short supply for many months, but we must be thankful for the introduction of the standard mash, brought about largely by the efforts of the New Zealand Poultry Board, who have acted in good faith for the common good of producers throughout New Zealand. Grain has been very hard to obtain and alternative foods have had to be substituted one for the other as they became available. However, poultry-keepers have kept going and the co-operation of all is asked for during the coming year to strengthen our bond of goodfellowship for the good of the industry, ‘‘Stabilisation has given to producers a beneficial rise in egg prices, and although we had looked forward to a higher increase, general satisfaction was felt that the authorities had at last recognised that an increase was necessary. Through persistent efforts of members of our organisation, we obtained direct producer representation on the food committee, and in general our association was in close touch with any developments likely to affect our industry.” Tire election of officers resulted: — President, Mr. J. A. A. Watts; vicepresident, Mr. J. Middleton; hon. secretary, Mr. A. R. Wood; hon. treasurer, Mr. S. G. Lewis; committee, Mrs. T. Peel, Messrs. T. Bolton. G. Dunn, S. Scott, W. A. McCliskie, M. P. Kippenberger, N. Davis, F. Collin, and F. Emms; executive, Mrs. Peel, Messrs. Bolton and Dunn; trustees, Mrs. J. Middleton and Mr. J. Rodda; hon. auditor, Mr. O. F. A. Poole.
